Curriculum
Open Arms
currently uses a combination of the Wee Learn Christian Curriculum and
the Creative Curriculum. The Wee Learn Christian Curriculum provides a
framework on which teachers can build an early childhood program that
allows children to grow and develop as Jesus did. The Creative
Curriculum guides teachers in planning a program that includes choice
time, small and large group time, and studies that integrate learning
across all the content areas. In addition, we also use the McGraw Hill
Math Curriculum. It is our opinion that these combined curricula fully
prepare our preschoolers for the elementary school of their choice.
Infant
Program
Infant
care is provided for babies ages six weeks to 12 months and walking.
Open Arms has two infant rooms.
Our
infant program uses a creative curriculum. Although the rate, pattern,
and quality of development vary from child to child, all infants
progress through similar stages. Our infant program is
closely attuned to the predictable sequences of normal infant
development in the areas of motor skill, language and communication,
cognition and socialization.
Toddler
Program
Open Arms
toddler program is provided for children who are 12 months through 24
months. We have three toddler classrooms. Each classroom has selected
milestones that help to assist with the growth and development of your
toddler.
Early
Preschool Programs
Open Arms
early preschool program is offered to children who are 24 months to age
three. We have two early preschool classrooms. Our curriculum
concentrates on pre-reading, math, science, art and music. Our
trained teachers also help with potty training.
Preschool
Programs
Open Arms
preschool program is offered to children who are three and young 4’s`. The
curriculum includes early reading, math, music, dramatic play, art,
science, pre-writing and field trips. The children move from one subject
to the next at regular intervals. Learning activities alternate with
indoor and outdoor play periods, both to forestall boredom and to
accommodate young attention spans.
Pre-Kindergarten Program
The
pre-kindergarten program is designed for children between the ages of four and five.
Our pre-kindergarten staff train with local kindergarten
teachers to develop curriculum that promotes kindergarten readiness. We
round out our program with art, music, science, math, dramatic play,
reading, writing and field trips.
